To obtain a Michigan marriage license, you must apply at the County Clerk’s Office in the county where one of the applicants resides. Once issued, Michigan residents can marry anywhere in the state. (MCL 551.101)  You must be 18 years of age or older to obtain a marriage license. (MCL 551.103)

Out-of-State applicants must apply in the county where the marriage ceremony will take place. Once issued, the license can only be used in the issuing county. (MCL 551.101)

To apply for a Marriage License, you will need:

• Driver’s License or State issued ID card
  BE ADVISED – The address on the ID presented must match the address on the marriage license application.
• Certified Birth Certificate
• Social Security number
• Has either party been divorced within the last year? If yes, we will need to see the Judgment of Divorce. (MCL 551.5)

Cost

• $20.00 for State-Residents
• $30.00 for Out-of-State Residents

Marriage License Application

Social Security numbers for both applicants required at pickup. ALL fields are required for application submission. Note that the application for a marriage license is a sworn affidavit. Making false statements in the marriage license affidavit is an act of perjury which is a prosecutable offense. (MCL 551.108)
